This month’s guest:
Dustin Fedun,
Branch Manager, Bow Trail SW Branch, Calgary, AB
RBC Performance - Thanks Dustin, for taking time to explain your thoughts on using recognition to achieve a sense of home at the Bow Trail South West branch.
Dustin - Thank your for the opportunity. In fact we never begin any meeting or huddle without starting with recognition. But it all begins by me taking time in advance to prepare our agenda and structuring the focus we put on recognition.
RBC Performance -
What do you mean by “creating a sense of home”?
Dustin -
When we focus on recognition and employ all the tools available, including spontaneous and impromptu thank-you’s, we help everyone to feel as if they belong. RBC Performance -
How does the team uncover recognition during your huddles that makes them feel at home? Dustin -
During huddles we pull up nominations, Instant Thanks and LTR comments, and give the individuals involved the opportunity to read them out loud, which gives them much more impact. We have a tickle trunk with fun gifts to keep things light. There’s really no silver bullet but by going beyond huddles and using the tools mentioned, being authentic and responding immediately when you see something worth recognizing, or offering someone who has done something special a coffee or treat, that’s all that’s required to say, “I care about you.”
