JUNE RECOGNITION MINUTE

This month’s guest:

Cheryl Ann Hynds,
Branch Manager, Owen Sound Branch, Owen Sound, ON

RBC Performance - We’re excited to talk to you today Cheryl so we can get to the bottom of your ideas around storytelling and recognition.

Cheryl - Storytelling has taken our Recognition Huddles to a much higher level. They've become much more than a verbal listing of recognition-worthy actions, and have turned into an opportunity to break down just how those actions were achieved, with everyone building on the telling of the story. This way the huddle takes on the nature of a roundtable discussion, from which we all learn and contribute. It’s so engaging.

RBC Performance - How does the storytelling get initiated?

Cheryl - We simply ask everyone to bring the really good stories forward concerning how we have helped our clients reach their goals and meet their needs. We make those stories personal and a demonstration of how our work is important as we make a difference in the lives of our clients.

RBC Performance - What happens if no one has a big story to tell?

Cheryl - It’s not about the size of the story. Small stories also have big value because most often the simple things add up to a big difference for our clients. What’s important is that by digging into the details, everyone can build onto the story with comments and stories of their own. It’s very similar to the way we tell stories in our own homes. It works best when it becomes a conversation.
